The Ask

Exodus.io is the creator of a popular cross-platform cryptocurrency wallet. Known for its stylistic approach and slick features, Exodus was looking to solve a few UX/UI problems with its mobile app’s wallet screen. From the brief:

“Find a better solution for showing Balance vs Asset Price

Think of the best way to indicate the information hierarchy and relation between CTAs – Send & Receive – and the users’ balance

Additionally, would be great to incorporate a way to link the Send Screen to the Exchange, by possibly including an Exchange CTA, that preloads the current asset

The UX problem that we currently experience is having no clear differentiation between Balance & Price and some users find it unsettling that the focus sits on the price, but the CTAs are placed next to it when the latter concern the balance, and overall we need more clarity.”

Concept 1

The idea was to approach this challenge in two ways: The first being to solve the given issues within the current interface by recycling existing elements into a lightly modified layout (Concept 1). Click the pic to check out the concept in Figma with included design notes:

Concept 1 Prototype

A basic prototype was also created to feature the updated concept.

Concept 2

Concept 2 was an attempt to solve the given issues with the existing version by introducing a new way to view asset holdings. The primary goal was to eliminate confusion about balance vs prices by simplifying the visual hierarchy and clearly labeling transaction affordances.

Result

Beyond solving for the primary X, Some analog-meets-virtual fun was injected into the functionality by displaying assets as cards in a deck/stack. Not purely for the sake of visual novelty, the user would see their portfolio summary in the default Total Assets card, and then be able to swipe through the rest of the stack to see other assets individually.

Aspects of concept 1 and 2 were integrated into the current app incarnation. Though the crypto landscape is well known for its flux, Exodus remains a trusted choice for savvy users that need a secure wallet solution that is as functional as it is aesthetically polished.
